President’s Message

Co-President’s Message – July 2025

Ahh, the best laid plans. Those of you who have been to my home have seen the raised beds my husband built for me 9 yrs ago in the tram-poline pit left in the yard by the prior owners. That first summer I put in six tomato plants along with other veggies. With a husband who will eat tomato sauce, but not fresh tomatoes, I quickly realized six plants were too many. Consequently, since then four plants have been my go-to: a cherry, a San Marzano, and then two slicing tomatoes – variety varying every year. This year I put in the four plants and a week or so later I noticed they did not look very good. Very yellow. Yipes! So I swung into action and planted the remaining five plants I still had in pots that I was trying to get the courage to toss in the compost bin. I planted all five because what if some of those got yellow too?? Well, they did not. And, in fact, the other four revived which, if you’re following the math, means I now have NINE tomato plants. I see filling many, many     canning jars with tomato sauce in my future…

I only have four people signed up for the Boulder Co. Fair Parade August 2nd and we most definitely want to have a better showing than that. If you didn’t get around to putting your name on the sign-up list at the June meeting, please send me an email if you’re up to joining in on the fun.

Our July meeting at Light Root Farm sounds absolutely fascinating. Take a look at their webpage. They have a dairy and summer camps for kids and teens. Please note our meeting will begin at 9:00. Bring your coffee/water, a chair, wear a hat, & leave the stilettos at home opting instead for walking shoes. See you there.
